On September 29, four thousand people gathered in the University of South Florida's Sun Dome Sports Arena for the largest ever intelligent design conference. What an event it was! To the eyes of someone in the trenches of the intelligent design movement for many years, that crowd was a thrilling sight. Even more exciting: Cameras recorded every minute of the event!

Please allow me to share with you the highlights of this remarkable two-day conference, "Darwin or Design?"

Sponsored by Physicians and Surgeons for Scientific Integrity, Inc. (PSSI), and organized by Tom Woodward, author of Doubts About Darwin, and his associate, Rich Akin, "Darwin or Design?" brought some of the world's leading ID scientists to the Sun Dome where they engaged the thousands of conferees with up-to-the-minute research and arguments in favor of intelligent design.

On the first day, conferees heard from Lehigh University biochemist, Dr. Michael Behe, author of Darwin's Black Box, and from Dr. Jonathan Wells, author of Icons of Evolution, both Senior Fellows of Discovery Institute. Jonathan is also the coauthor, along with Dr. Bill Dembski (also a Senior Fellow of Discovery), of The Design of Life. During each of their fantastic presentations the audience frequently erupted with obvious delight and applause. It was, indeed, a great day in the history of intelligent design.

For FTE, the highlight of the first day included the opportunity to announce the forthcoming publication of The Design of Life. This took place in a creative format. Bill Dembski was interviewed by Dr. Audris Zidermanis, a long-time friend of FTE and biology teacher and professor for over 40 years. Given the meeting's sponsorship by PSSI, Audris was the perfect choice for this interview, for he teaches review lessons to medical doctors preparing to take their Boards. Bill's provocative responses ignited genuine interest in the book.

Of course, we took advantage of the occasion to offer a 20% conference discount on DOL to all conferees, even though it won't be out for a few more months. To implement this, we produced a beautiful CD that introduces the book, featuring free downloads of the Preface, Table of Contents, Epilogue, Endorsements by scientists, and most importantly, Chapter One, "Human Origins." In addition, the CD links to our newly-launched web site, www.overwhelmingevidence.com, where they can permanently secure their discount. Many hundreds of conferees picked up copies.

The second day of the conference included a talk by microbial geneticist and research specialist, Dr. Ralph Seelke, concerning his recent research conducted at Stanford University's state-of-the-art medical laboratories. Dr. Seelke's research provides powerful confirmation of Dr. Behe's irreducible complexity argument. Once published, this very large research project will have an explosive impact.

Not only did this conference give us the perfect venue to introduce DOL to its potential market, it also provided an opportunity for Pam Bailey, FTE's new Executive Administrative Assistant, to shine. And shine she did. She began at FTE on Sept. 1, bringing with her a diverse background of administrative experience and accomplishments. Pam helped develop the CD, planned the entire discount system, and organized and "manned" a beautiful table of FTE materials. Altogether, probably a thousand or more conferees secured their discounts on The Design of Life that evening.

And now, the good news! For a minimum of 30 days, the entire evening will be available on the internet for viewing around the world!
